Task

In the previous OP we moved into a compound and cleared it, and retrieved the local priests car. During this operation we were tasked with investigating insurgent activities in three villages around Hill 55. The locals had reported some weird noises, something along a helicopter or large drone.

Planning

We planned on hitting the villages in a clockwise direction, generally moving in with minor caution, since reports from the civilians signaled only minor ground activity. Since we were only a fireteam this was the preferable action.

Execution

First Village

After a slightly bumpy drive to the objective, we moved low through the jungle until we reached the north side of the village. We heard sporadic gunfire targeting our helicopter moving above. After slowly moving into the village we only encountered two insurgents. Shortly after we engaged them we were engaged by indirect fire, so we withdrew back up north. However we could determine that there were probably no more contacts in the village.

Second Village

While we were walking towards the second village, we got reports that the third village was unoccupied, making this our final objective. We practiced LDAs (Linear Danger Area) on our way to the village. When we got close we almost got spotted by a nearby technical patrolling along the road, however we managed to sneak past in the jungle. Near the village we encountered a insurgent fireteam and were suddenly engaged. When we managed to get fire superiority we started to bound around the village before we had a good avenue of attack from the south. We started to move forward in pairs, slowly clearing out the objective. Me, Kowalski and Doc ended up holding the southern entrance to the village, while Soup and Loustone cleared through the buildings. As we cleared the village, we found a cache of explosives and weapons, alongside a truck and a civilian helicopter. Here we were give a choice, either destroy the cache, or load the truck and drive it to the local village, allowing the civilians to create their own militia. Since we had pretty good control of the situation (and because it was preferably for RP) we chose to load up the truck with the supplies. However while we were doing that the technical that we almost discovered us surged in, followed by a BRDM. We managed to fight them back, with help from the insurgents emplaced weapons and a good amount of explosives. When the situation quieted down, we grabbed the truck and a technical and headed to the village where the priest resided.

Wind down

We struggled to drive this old technical and heavy truck through the forest trail and dirt roads, but eventually after some shenanigans with hills and forgotten handbrakes we made it the village where we were met by the priest, having marked his church with the purple smoke we left him the previous operation. He was delighted by the materials we brought, however complained that the car we fetched last op had been in a traffic accident, and that he needed a lift to a nearby village since their priest had recently died. Problem though, we only had a technical, and that only had three seats. No worries, after some grace from god the priest managed to requisition another Sarka, and we raced to the other village. After only a couple of mishaps we got to the other village where we basically endexed (after giving the priest another smoke grenade). This was followed by the pilot, who had forgotten to RTB, fell out of the sky because he had run out of gas.

Conclusion

Fun OP, immersive sneaking through the jungle with only a fireteam. Great balance between banter and game-face, and generally always feeling vulnerable. Let's see what the priest and the peoples militia has in store next Sunday.
